Sports Update

Congratulations to the varsity boy’s hockey team on their win against SJK. Being down 2-0 at the end of the first period, made for an uphill climb back into the game. The boys were relentless and pushed the pace of play for the rest of the game. Their hard work paid off, as they evened the score going into the third period. They continued the third how they left off the second period, eventually taking the lead with minutes left in the game to hold off SJK. They finished with a win of 4-3.

Crestwood’s U14 swim team competed in the Jr. CISAA Swimming Championships at the Olympian Pool in Etobicoke. The team showed off their strong starts, speedy sprints and overall sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the entire meet. Swimmers including Kaitlyn Balter, Ashley Collins, Alexander Fallows, Jessica Levitt, Marina Nevison, Megan Pearlman, Greg Quon and Cindy Wang made a splash. Ms. Reay would like to congratulate all of the athletes on their great performances and on ending the swim season representing Crestwood with pride. Special congratulations to Megan Pearlman who brought home three championship ribbons, including third place in the 50 meter freestyle, third place in the 50 meter butterfly and second place in the 100 meter freestyle.

On February 25th, the Jr. Boys Basketball team hosted Pickering College in the first round of the playoffs. Playing against an undermanned squad, Crestwood jumped out to an early lead, thanks to the contributions of Emre Desiru, Mehmet Hocaouglu and Mert Tutco. The second half saw Crestwood build on their lead with some hot shooting from Erik Usher and the drive and kick game played between Logan Lim and Kabier Izzeldin. When the final horn sounded, Crestwood had emerged victorious by a score of 53-32. Overall, it was a great first playoff game and the team looks forward to competing in the championships this Saturday.

February 26th was the final day of the CISAA curling championships. The Open and Girls team went into the day needing wins in the morning to advance to the finals. The Crestwood teams did not disappoint, with both teams scoring victories in the morning.
While the Open Team ultimately fell to the squad from The York School in the finals, their play earned them second overall in the division. Congratulations to Reese Webster, Adam Golden, Malcolm Leask and Gaby Croituro for a fantastic season. The Crestwood Girls went into the finals hungry for a victory, and looking to cap their perfect season with a CISAA championship. As was the case all year, the Crestwood Girls lived up to the hype. There’s a new banner bound for the gymnasium wall, as the Girls are the 2014-2015 CISAA girl’s champions! Jessie, Mara, Amy and Danielle are now bound for the provincial championships in Brighton during the first week of March Break. This marks the end of the CISAA curling season, and Coaches Hawkins and Klein would like to thank all of Crestwood’s curlers for a fantastic season. Thank also to Crestwood’s Mr Jull for all his work as league convenor.
