Tony Qi, Jordan Nikolov, Aedan Takes, Liam Macinnis, and William Ford left it all on the course as they raced against the best of their peers. Well done everyone and looking forward to the Track & Field season in the spring!

Last Friday, the Varsity Cross Country Team girls competed at the Neil McNeil Boardwalk Relay meet. Congratulations to Samara Black, Jennifer Wang and Kyra Grossman who each ran 3km to complete the 12km relay race.

Soccer

The U14 Boys’ Soccer Team hosted Holy Trinity School in a close quarter final match. Holy Trinity scored early making it an up hill battle for CPC. Adam Pearlman helped close the gap with a magnificent goal, however, it wasn’t enough to win the match. The boys had a great season, Mrs. O’Connor and Mr. Koaich were pleased with their efforts.

On Wednesday, the Junior Boys’ Soccer Team played their final regular season game against UCC.  With a few key players not playing due to injury, the boys had to really pull together to put up a good fight against a strong opposition.  It was a back and forth match from start to finish.  With the incredible hustle from Victor Stroganov and the leadership of Ege Kuseybat, we were able to keep the game at a 1-1 tie.  But it was a heroic diving fingertip save by Tim Kufner in the final minute that preserved the tie as the final score.  With this tie, the boys will head into the playoffs next week.

Wednesday afternoon the Senior Boys’ Soccer Team traveled to UCC to play its final match against one of the top teams in its division. Despite a valiant effort on the part of the boys, the boys ended their season on a losing note. Honourable shout outs go out to a number of players who stood out in Wednesday’s match and who have exhibited hard work and dedication throughout the year: Sam Douey, Derek Boeker, David McCall, Joseph Eisentraut, Michael DiBattista, Robert McHale, Charlie Nogas, and Rhys Malisch. Also a shout out goes out to Lisa Newton for her hard work and support throughout the season.

Volleyball

The U14 Boys’ Volleyball Team had their last game of the season Monday afternoon against Sterling Hall. Despite their loss, the boys played very well. We had many great three-hit rallies, awesome court communication, and impressive serves. Shout outs to the whole team for their incredible improvements. Great season, boys! Keep putting those bumps and volleys to practice for next year.

The Junior Boys’ Volleyball Team had their best game of the season at TFS Monday. It took the boys a couple of sets to warm up, but they won the third set 25-16, thanks to some great rallies and good movement on the court. Unfortunately, they were not able to hold their momentum to win the game, and lost the final set. Great plays seen by Jaden Langley-Thomas, who took on the new position of setter, as well as the Mighty brothers and Kian Torabi. Coach Hann and Wappel are happy with the volleyball played!

The Junior Boys’ Volleyball Team played their most exciting game of the season Thursday, with many CPC fans cheering them on. The game was against Country Day School, and our boys easily took the first set, 25-13, thanks to Kian Torabi’s amazing 13-serve streak. CDS clawed their way back, and took the next two sets with very tight scores of 25-21 and 27-25. With great teamwork and communication, CPC won the fourth set, 25-20. It all came down to the fifth and final set, where the boys continued to make smart plays, and work together as a team. Unfortunately, CDS took the final set, 15-11. Coaches Hann and Wappel are so pleased with the great volleyball that was seen, and are looking forward to their final game against LCS. Let’s Go Lions!

The Senior Boys’ Volleyball Team travelled to the Toronto French School Monday for their last away game. The lions pounced over the TFS cougars yesterday for a clean sweep. Often playing from behind, the team displayed tremendous amount of resiliency and fought back from a 7 point and 8 point deficit to improve their record to three wins in the last four games. Shout out to Silva Xu for his consistent attack, Emre Demirsu for his unique passes and Erik Usher for his accurate serve.

Basketball

Wednesday afternoon, the U14 Lady Lions played their toughest competitors of the season against a very strong Branksome Hall team.  Although Branksome Hall kept it close, with a score of 15-13, in our favour going into the 3rd quarter, the Lady Lions would take a convincing lead and never look back.  With explosive play and scoring by Saleah Joseph and Tinamarie Otchere, and strong defensive by Ella Lee-O’Rourke, the Lady Lions were victorious, 51-29.  The Lady Lions will now complete in their second consecutive CISAA U14  Division 1 Championships this Saturday at Havergal College.

Wednesday afternoon the Junior Girls’ Basketball Team played their last home game of the season against DeLaSalle. Once again under the leadership of Tianna Bailey, Zakayla Day-Burrell, and Jadaia Reid we got off to a fast start and never looked back. Great ball control by Rachel Mintz and Meghan Pearlman and great defense by Emily Glass and Sophia Ren contributed to the win. The final score being 36-23.

Monday our Senior Girls’ Basketball Team took to our home floor against a resilient Appeby College.  Appleby fought hard but still came up short.  The Lions were led by the red hot shooting of Georgia Gardner.

Wednesday our undefeated Senior Girls’ Basketball Team took our home floor.  The Lady Lions got off to a slow start but once everyone found their rhythm, there was no looking back.  Behind the sharp shooting of Shayeann Day-Wilson the Lady Lions were able to secure the win with a final score of 58-28.
