Gr. 6 Trip Meeting Reminder

Grade 6 students will be going on a two night, three day trip to Ottawa. This educational experience will give students the opportunity to visit a number of historically and/or politically significant locations throughout Canada’s capital. The group will depart on the morning of Wednesday, June 7th, and travel by coach bus to Ottawa. They will return to Crestwood on Friday, June 9th. Students will be accompanied by their Grade 6 teachers during their stay in Ottawa. This trip has been organized through Keating Tours by Explorica.

The students’ itinerary will include the following:

  • A tour of the Parliament Buildings

  • A visit to Rideau Hall

  • A trip to the Diefenbunker Museum, (Yes, it is called the Diefenbunker!)

  • A visit to the Byward Market

There will be a parent information meeting held at 7:00 pm on the evening of Thursday, February 2nd. During the meeting you will be provided with information about the hotel, rooming arrangements and other excursions scheduled as part of the itinerary. Health and dietary restrictions will also be addressed. In addition, parents will learn about the on-line booking procedure to be used for this trip.

The cost of this Grade 6 trip to Ottawa is dependent on the number of students taking part. At the very most the trip will cost $550.00 for each student. This includes all transportation, a two-night stay at the Courtyard Marriot Ottawa East or the equivalent, entry into all activities and all breakfasts and dinners.

Keating Tours also provides the opportunity for you to arrange travel insurance for your child, should you wish to do so. This will be outlined at the upcoming information session. Please note that the cost of travel insurance is in addition to the cost of the trip.

Overnight trip experiences such as this, offer students a unique opportunity to learn through active participation in the environment. They will experience Ottawa as they learn about its political and historical impact and celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary. In addition, students learn to live and work cooperatively in a fun situation as they mark the end of their time at Crestwood School. Such experiences require that students demonstrate maturity, responsibility and the ability to be cooperative so that they may be successful participants in the program.
