Sweater and Hat Help!

Dear Parents,

At Crestwood School we encourage our students to recognize the importance of helping others and giving back. We are very proud of our tradition of community service and we are particularly pleased when individuals take the initiative to propose their own charitable fundraiser to help those in need.   Last year, Tyler Solomon initiated a drive to help children in the Philippines by collecting school supplies. This year, Tyler has once again recognized a need and asked that we at Crestwood School join him to help to make a difference.

Crestwood School’s Grade 4 classes are pleased to announce that they will be holding a week-long drive to collect gently used sweaters and warm hats.    The items will be organized and sent to 11 villages located in the Himalayas.   These are extremely poor villages located at a very high elevation. It can be extremely cold there, and many of the children own only one item of clothing. Yet these children still pursue their education, even walking up to 4 hours, in the freezing cold, to and from school.   We would like to help these children to stay warm by providing them with winter clothing.

Lee Davis, Crestwood’s Occupational and Yoga therapist has been committed to helping these villages for a number of years. She has volunteered, through her husband’s company, to ship all of the clothing and hats to the villages where they will be distributed to those most in need.

If you are able to help, we would appreciate your donations of gently used sweaters and hats.

Please make sure all items are only GENTLY USED, CLEAN and COMPLETE. Items can be donated to your child’s homeroom classroom between Monday, May 29th and Friday, June 2nd.

Thank you for your assistance in teaching our students about the importance of helping others. Please contact Ms. Hektor if you have any questions or require any assistance.

Yours truly,

Patti Hektor                                   Tyler Solomon
