Winter Sports Update

Curling

Crestwood’s Open Curling Team travelled to Leaside Curling Club for the first game of their 2016-2017 season against Montcrest. The team took off to an early lead, however, Montcrest stormed back to tie the game going into the final end. The game came down to the final rock; Crestwood skip Daven Siu had to deliver a perfectly thrown rock to win the game- and he did not disappoint. Final Score: Crestwood 6 – Montcrest 5.

The Boys and Open Curling teams traveled to Richmond Hill Curling Club for a pair of games against the squads from the York School. Despite making some fantastic shots, and employing a great degree of strategy, the squads were not able to best the rinks from the York School. Both teams will have a chance at redemption next Monday, when they head to Leaside for games against Bayview Glen.

Hockey

The U-14 Hockey Team opened their 2016-2017 season on the road against RSGC.  The team jumped out to a quick 2-0 and never really looked back. Great play by all in both the offensive and defensive zones of the ice and a solid debut performance by Roy Pejcinovski between the pipes, CPC beat RSGC 6-2.  Sam Li and Cole Eichler, both finished the game with Hat Tricks! Keep up the good work!

Basketball

The Under 14 boys basketball team traveled to U CC to play in their first game of the season. Our boys were excited to finally get the season going and it showed, as they got out to an early lead and did not look back. Under the leadership of Elijah Fisher with 27 points and Jaden Thomas with 24 pts, and Caiden Oshinowo draining 10 pts, the boys were on their way securing their first win of the season. Special mention must go out to James Gillingham who played a strong game on the defensive side of the ball as well as Shaan Kapur and Jaden Zelyuk.

The Junior Boys Basketball team faced off against last year reigning champs St. Mike’s.  It was an amazing back and forth battle for the entire game, with both teams showing outstanding offense and defense.  Unfortunately, CPC fell just short in the final seconds losing the game by a score of 73-71. Tahron Allen led the team in scoring with 30 points and Juliu Holanda De Gauw took the lead on the defensive side with 8 blocked shots.  Check out some video’s of the game on the Crestwood Facebook page.

Monday after school the senior boys basketball team played their home opener against RSGC.  The team came out strong from the opening tip off and never looked back.  Josh Haughton led the way with 30 points, followed by Jahcobi Neath with 27, Tomer Tarsky with 15, and Alex Comanita with 11.  The team worked hard till the final whistle ending the game at 109-60.

The boys did it again, and won their second game in a row defeating Toronto French School 78-22.  Leading scorer was Josh Haughton with 25 points, followed by Tomer Tarsky and Dusan Prelo both with 12 points.  Defensive Player of the game was David McCall.

Swimming

The Varsity Swim Team dove straight into their first meet of the season, and the results were outstanding. Almost all swimmers posted best times, and some even placed in the top 3 in their events.

Special mentions for the 50 Free go out to Elizabeth Keane, Marina Nevison, Audrey Melkoumov, Sam Douey, and Max Dolman, for each dropping 2 seconds in their races. Congratulations to Armin Selzner, who broke 29 seconds for the first time!
Both the Open Boys Relay Teams, consisting of Justin Lim, Michael Lim, Bora Kutun, Joseph Zuckerman, Mohamed Basha, and Armin Selzner, posted times that were below the quick OFSAA qualification standards. The boys will have to swim this well at the CISAA Championships in February, to secure a spot at OFSAA in March.IMG_1548
