Sports Update

What a week the Lions had! Whether that was at the pool, on the court, or at the rink, our CPC athletes had great success.

Our U14 and varsity swimmers competed on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. Our Lions were smashing their own records, with many athletes achieving personal best times. All of our swimmers deserve special recognition for the hard work that they have shown at practice and at their first meet. Congratulations to our U14 Boys Relay team who won their 4 x 50 event, and to Sarah Douey (50 back) and Justin Lim (100 fly and 100 IM) for winning individual events.

The U-14 Hockey team opened it’s 2015-2016 season with a win over RSGC.  Trailing for most of the second and third period, the team was able to pick themselves up and rally back, beating a very strong RSGC team 5-4. Great play by all, especially Alexa Gibson for keeping us in the game when we needed it the most. Goal scorers included Jayson Osak, Vanessa Kozik, Aaron Little, Jordan Siegel and Jacob Hanning.

The three boys’ basketball teams each played exciting games this week. The U-14 team played a game like tug of war. With seconds left on the clock, and only a couple points separating the lead, CPC created a fast break down the court to secure the win. The final score was 42-41. Shout out goes to Jonas Wiessland, whose speed and agility was unmatched by anyone.

The Junior Boys Basketball team hosted Pickering College this week. The team got out to a quick start thanks to the guard play of Jonah Eichler and the offensive rebounds of Yale Zhang. After getting out to an early lead, the Lions were able to coast the rest of the game thanks to a whole team effort that saw four players score 8 points or more. Special shout out to Edward Li and Robert Altschuler for some tough defense.

The Senior Boys Basketball team played their first game of the season against St. Andrews College. The boys started off the game very well playing a strong defensive front, with great rebounding from Ahmed Izzeldin. Baskets were hard to come by as both teams struggled in the first half. Inconsistent ball control and  poor second half defense inevitably led to the teams first loss of the season. Special mention goes out to Anthony Audette for his energetic play and his first couple baskets of the season.
