Sports Update

The Varsity Boys Softball team started the year in style, with an impressive 16-13 victory over Appleby College. The boys had an excellent effort all around, with timely hitting and effective defence. The attack was spearheaded by the timely hitting of Jonah Patel, David Hagon, and Andrew Edwards.  Key to the offense was also the lightning speed of Tymon Weinstein, who was an absolute demon on the base paths.

The Junior Boys Rugby team played in their first league games of the season, on Monday at Holy Trinity School.  It was a great day of rugby and the team was quite successful.  We began the day with a victory against Pickering College 12-5. Charlie West and Braden Harris had a try each, and Braden also added a conversion.  In our second match, we faced the host school, Holy Trinity.  In an exciting game, Crestwood defeated HTS 17-10. Artie Shylov scored 2 tries, Mehmet had 1 try and Braden had another successful conversion.  The final match of the day involved the 2 undefeated teams – CPC and Greenwood.  It was a good battle but unfortunately Greenwood came out on top, winning 24-10.  Artie was the try scorer in this final match.  Congratulations on a great day, next practice is Thursday morning 7am.

The Senior Boys Rugby Team started off the season with a bang, winning all three games and playing some phenomenal defense.  In three games, we held the opposing teams to only 2 tries, thanks to some fantastic tackling. In game 1, we defeated Pickering College 10-0 with Benji Gertin and Bennettt Harris scoring tries.  In game 2, we played Albert College and won the game 29-7.  Tries were scored by Benji, Bennett, Will Malisch, and Luca Lettieri.  In the final game of the day, CPC faced the undefeated Rosseau Lake.  It proved to be a great game, with CPC winning by a score of 17-5.  Congratulations on an awesome day of rugby.

The U14 Girls Soccer Team played host to the traveling Montcrest team on Monday afternoon. After a pretty uninspiring start to the game, which saw Crestwood go down 1-0 after conceding a penalty shot, our girls tied up the affair at 1-1 on the strength of some determined pressing by Sydney Tytel and Angelina Audette. With minutes to play in the first half, Angelina tied the game with a shot inside the box from a sharp angle. The second goal saw the two teams trade chances, with neither team truly threatening the other’s goal.Crestwood ended the game with a fair tie, and extended their unbeaten streak to 2 wins, I tie and 0 losses. The team has two practices this week before it ends its regular season, next week against Trafalgar. Go CPC!
