Basketball

The U-14 Girls Basketball were victorious in their season opener in their first year of Division 1 basketball.  The girls started off quick and strong, out scoring their opponents from BVG 37-13 after the first.  The team’ strong play continued in the second half beating BVG by a final score of 66-41.  Great play by all, especially Latasha Lattimore who had 34 of CPC’s 66 points. Keep up the good work!

Our Junior Girls Basketball team won their second game of the season in their home opener against Trinity College School. Despite Trinity beating us in size, our girls strong defense and excellent communication resulted in many steals. All girls played their hardest and made their coaches proud. Highlights include 18 point by Zak Burell-Day 15 by Jadaia Reid, 8 by Qadira Hamilton, 2 by Georgia Gardner and 2 by Kaitlyn Balter. Congratulations girls!

The Senior Girls Basketball team travelled to TMS to play in their second game of the season. Coming off a very difficult loss the girls were rejuvenated and had an extra bounce in their step. The girls got off to an early lead and never looked back. With great passing, strong defensive play and  great teamwork the girls won the game 43-17. Special mention must go out to Areeg Burgonio with 12 pts and Zak Day-Burrell with 17 pts. Great game played by all our next practice is this Thurs at 4:30.

Soccer

The senior boys soccer team traveled to Downsview Park to take on The York School. The game started out with CPC applying high pressure, and creating many opportunities to score. On a fast break The York School, broke through CPC’s back line, and put one away. For a moment, CPC fell flat, and got away from their possession style game. Second half, CPC found their groove, and started stringing together sequences of passes to get by TYS seamlessly. CPC’s tenacious play, broke TYS, and the Lions capitalized on their chances. Goals were scored by John Mainprize, Cole Morrison, Julia Lee, Braden Harris and Matthew Yanovski. Their home opener is next Thursday vs. Bayview Glen, be sure to come out and support them!

The junior boys’ soccer team played their season opener on Wednesday, Sept. 28th at Trinity College.  The game started out fast and furious with the speed and skills of Rhys Malisch and Charlie Nogas earning a penalty shot in the first ten minutes.  Michael DiBattista calmly stepped up to take the penalty with a perfectly placed shot into the net.  For the rest of the match, both teams traded a multitude of chances, but unfortunately Trinity was able to capitalize on more of theirs. Although we lost in the end, it was obvious that with a little more practice in offensive efficiency and defensive marking our team will be a tough challenge to all oppositions.  Special mentions go out to Noah Lerner’s quiet but solid defensive plays, Jonas Weissland’s tough and physical presence, and Sam Frigerio’s amazing play-making.  The team will next play Appleby this upcoming Saturday.

Volleyball

You senior boys volleyball team traveled to Pickering College in Newmarket and faced off with a team with an unknown track record to the CISAA volleyball world.  Although the Lions dropped the first set by 3 points, they battled back and won the next set by a large margin. They continued to trade sets with the Pickering Pumas right up until the very last tie breaking set. Trailing at 14-10, the Lions were exhausted so the coaches called a time out to give them a quick break, and managed to sabotage the opposition’s serving attempt. The Lions managed to continue battling with their hearts on their sleeves, but ultimately dropped the last set. Coaches Hann and Wan are extremely proud of the improvement they have seen yet again in a matter of days between the teammates and would like to give a special shout out to Sunny Liu for taking ownership of the Libero position for the first time in his career, Anthony Audette and Alexander Comanita for their conservative yet effective serves. The Lions will travel to Country Day School next Wednesday.

Congratulations to the Junior Boys Volleyball Team, who won their second game of the season  against TMS! The boys swept all three games, winning 25 to 15, 25 to 20, and 25 to 14. Our shout-outs of the game goes to Tahron Allen for his enthusiasm and aggressiveness at the net, Anthony Radford-Grant for his consistent serves and great digs, and William Sun for his perfect passes. The season has been off to a great start, and Coach Postma and Wappel are very impressed!
