Multicultural Day

Multicultural Day has been an annual tradition at Crestwood since the school first opened its doors. Every year, students studying Grade 9 Geography are assigned a country to research and become experts on. Working in groups, students research various aspects of their assigned nation’s culture, and also prepare appetizers, entrees and desserts that showcase that nation’s cuisine. Lastly, and most important to the assignment’s overall goal, students select at least one person from their assigned country who has immigrated to Canada and made a significant contribution to Canada’s history, culture or economy.

This year’s multicultural day was a fantastic success. It also saw the addition of a school wide assembly to kick the day off. Students were treated to a performance by the Sunny Tang Lion Dance team, and educated as to the significance of the Lunar New Year, which begins Monday.

Beyond raising awareness and understanding of the importance of multiculturalism to Canada, the festivities also helped raise funds to Anthony, Gertrude and Therese, the three foster children Crestwood sponsors through PLAN Canada.

Mr. Tanev, Ms. Williams and Mr. Hawkins would like to thank all of their students for their hard work, the administration for their support, and all those who came out to make today such a fantastic success.
