Advanced Placement

In addition to the regular academic and university preparatory courses offered at Crestwood, we also offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses. These are courses provided by the Advanced Placement Program of the College Board. These courses give students an opportunity to take university-level courses and exams while still in high school. High school teachers find that AP courses enhance their students’ confidence and stimulate their academic interest, and university faculty report that AP students are far better prepared for serious academic work.

Students may take an AP course in conjunction with their regular high school courses and commit additional time to the necessary AP workload. Students also write their AP exam at an earlier date in May, and regular exams are in June. In July, these results are reported to the candidates, Crestwood and designated universities. Although these results do not affect admission to university, once registered, many universities in Canada, and most in the United States, grant transfer credits based on successful AP results. Students wishing to take an AP course MUST register with the subject teacher of the prerequisite course before commencing an AP course at Crestwood.

Grade 11/12 AP courses are offered at Crestwood Preparatory College in the following subjects:

  • Physics
  • Computer Science
  • French
  • Spanish
  • Biology
  • English Language
  • American History – Grade 11
  • World History
  • Visual Arts
  • English Literature

  • Economics

NOTE: Students must have the recommendation of the teacher of the previously completed prerequisite course in order to register for an AP course.
