U12 Hockey Advances to Final 8

The Crestwood School hockey team captured the eighth seed in the CISAA U12 hockey tournament after defeating Pickering College 5-4 in overtime yesterday afternoon. The game did not start well for Crestwood as Pickering jumped out to a 2-0 lead. It did not look like we would be able to get one by their goaltender until Cole Eichler pierced the top right corner with a sizzling snap shot. Eichler tickled the twine again before the end of the second to knot it at two. Pickering went up again 3-2 before Julian Viznicki was setup by a hard working Tim Kufner to tie it again. Eichler aka “Hat Trick Ricky” fired in his third to launch us into the lead but the persistent Pickering squad struck back quickly to even it at four. Our goalie Dimitris Chistodoulou needed to be sharp as we traded chances back and forth until time finally ran out. First year Grade 5 student Evan Senior proved to be the hero in extra time when his shorthanded slapper from the blue line found the back of the net with just 15 seconds remaining. The Crestwood fans and players erupted.  The squad travels to Upper Canada College on Friday to compete in the Final 8 Tournament. We congratulate Dimitris Christodoulou, Evan Senior, James Gilday, Thurman Zarek, Lee Williams, Vanessa Kozik, Adam Bounsall, Peter Keane, Tony Yang, Cole Eichler, Julian Vinizki, Josh Moozar, Tim Kufner, Bradley Parker and Jordan Sigel) and wish you all the best of luck on Friday.
