Tall Stable Towers

Grade 3A has been learning about basic building ideas. We learned that engineers have three secrets when it comes to building towers. Here they are:

  1. Firm Base: A tall tower like the CN Tower always has a very large, heavy and strong base that will support the weight of the tower.
  2. Distance Around: The further you go up there, the smaller the distance around that part of the tower.
  3. Materials Used: Most towers start with concrete in their base. Sometimes steel is used during construction to reinforce the structure.

Look at the towers that we built in teams. Each tower was able to stand strong and stable as we tested them against wind and earthquakes in our class and all we used was paper. We were amazed at how strong paper could be as a building material.
