Student Achievement Contests

On April 17th, 15 Crestwood students wrote the Begbie Contest. The Begbie Society Canadian History Contest is a nation-wide contest written by 1000s of grade 9 to 12 students across Canada each year. While some content knowledge is required, the test is designed to focus more on critical thinking and analysis, rather than simple memorization. This is the third year that we have participated, and success has come early for Crestwood students. Last year, Zachary Brown ’14 and Justin Memar-Makhsous ’15 both ranked in the top 40 of the entire country. We are hoping for continued success this year. Results will be returned in mid-May, just in time for the end of year awards assembly.

The Euclid Mathematics Contest is offered by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing at the University of Waterloo. The primary audience are senior mathematics students in grade 12, and some highly motivated grade 11 students. In 2012, almost 17,000 students wrote the Euclid Contest worldwide, including 4,000 international contestants. The contest presents a great way for students to challenge themselves and test their mathematical mettle against their peers. On Wednesday, April 17th, nearly 20 Crestwood students wrote the Euclid Contest.
