Kies, Suzy

Suzy is an Urban Indigenous woman of Abenaki and Montagnais-Naskape ancestry.  Suzy has worked with the Indigenous community in Simcoe County for 16 years, advocating for the rights of Indigenous children and youth to have the same education and employment opportunities as their non-Indigenous peers. She was the 2016 Recipient of the Ontario Minister for the Status of Women’s leadership award.  She is an activist and artist who believes the arts can help to heal and challenge Canadians.  On November 19, 2019, Suzy visited Crestwood for our Towards Reconciliation Symposium, where she conducted a workshop and brought forth a message of empathy and understanding through the arts.
