isKwe

Iskwé was born and raised in Winnipeg, and is currently living in Toronto after stints in Los Angeles and New York. Iskwé is an upcoming force in the music scene, who has been called “one to watch” by The Grid, and “one of the top 10 Canadian musicians you need to know” by CBC Music.  Her name (pronounced iss-kway) means “woman” in her native language, and her debut album weaves together Irish and Cree/Dene roots with hip-hop breakbeats, left-field R&B, and traces of piano pop.

IsKwe took part in Crestwood’s “Towards Reconciliation” Symposium on Nov. 10, 206, when she held a workshop for students, and also did an oral history interview.  Students were mesmerized by her music, as she brought the day to a powerful conclusion, illustrating the connection of music and social justice.
