Clarry, Richard

Richard Clarry was born October 23, 1936 in Toronto.  He grew up in the city’s west end during the Second World War, when his father was a pilot in the RCAF.  Richard’s wartime years were spent in school and in High Park, where he played baseball and hockey and everything else.  He left school at 16 to work, and it was at this time that his uncle persuaded him to join the Canadian Forces, and he served in the mid-1950s.  His stint in the army was short at two years, and Richard went on to enjoy the elements of Toronto and California in the 1950s, especially music and cars and horse racing.  Richard Clarry was interviewed at the Sunnybrook Veterans’ Wing in March 2023.
