For the second year in a row, the Girls Varsity Curling team represented Crestwood and CISAA at the OFSAA Provincial Curling Championships. The team of Jessie Cooke, Mara Bowman, Sarah Mainprize and Amy Cho travelled to Brampton during the second week of March Break to compete with the 20 best girls’ rinks in the province.
While the girls did not advance past the round robin stage of the tournament, it was a week of success for the team. In games against Centre Dufferin, Markham and eventual champions Marymount, the Crestwood rink held their own and were competitive. The highlight of the week came in the girls’ final game against St. Michael’s Catholic School from Bolton. The girls played the best game of their Crestwood careers, and walked off with a victory. This victory marks the first time a CISAA team (boys or girls) has won a game at the OFSAA tournament.
The tournament marks the end of a very productive and successful year for the Crestwood Curling Program. Coach Hawkins, as well as parent volunteers Steven Webster, and George and Erica Cooke, would like to thank all the curlers for their hard work all season. The new season is only 7 months away, but until then- Hurry Hard!
