Basketball

Wednesday night the U14 Lady Lions were victorious in their season opener against Bayview Glen School.  The Lady Lions started off slow, going down 12-6 by the end of the first quarter but with strong defense and explosive play by Saleah Joseph, they were able to tie it up by half, 18-18.  At the start of the third quarter, the Lady Lions continued with their strong defensive play and scoring and never looking back, walking away with a 42-26 victory.  Great play by all, with special mention going out to Saleah Joseph, Tinamarie Otchere, Olivia Chodat and Amy Cai.

Wednesday afternoon the Junior Girls’ Basketball team traveled to Trinity to play in their first game of the season. The game got off to a great start and the girls never looked back. Exemplifying the true nature of sportsmanship the girls played with grit and determination. The final score was 63-29. Special mention must go to Kayla Drummond dropping 22 pts, Zakayla Day-Burrell dropping 16 pts, and Tianna Bailey scoring 10 pts. A fantastic effort by Rachel Mintz contributing 8 pts and Emily Glass working hard on both ends of the court. Great work girls!

Wednesday our Sr. Girls’ Basketball team travel to Trinity College for their first game of the regular season.  After a slow start the team put everything in motion.  Areej Burgonio dominated the game from behind the three point line where she went 5/5.  Latasha Lattimore led all scorers with her ability to score inside and out. Our Lions returned victorious with a score of 50-35.  The game also featured Latasha attempting her first in game dunk which saw the ball bounce off the back rim.

Volleyball

Wednesday the U14 Boys’ Volleyball team had their first game of the season! The boys learned early on in the first set how important it is to communicate with each other on the court. Shout out to Haeden Schneider and Jamey Luepann for their excellent serving! During the last two sets, the boys’ passing improved and they ended the final set Appleby 25 Crestwood 20, a very close game!

The Junior Boys Volleyball Team travelled to Holy Trinity School Wednesday night for their first game of the season. Although the boys put forth a valiant effort, they were defeated after three matches. Great ball handling was shown by veterans Kian Torabi and K’Shawn Latty, as well as newcomers, Armani and Imani Mighty. Our strongest and most consistent serves were seen by Spenser Whitnall. The boys will continue their season on Monday here at Crestwood. Come out and support your Lions!

Soccer

On Wednesday, the Junior Boys’ Soccer team played their season opener against TCS.  Right from the opening whistle, our boys controlled the game by keeping the ball away from the opposition.  We must have been possessed by the spirit of FC Barcelona as our Tiki Taka passing put on showcase for the fans.  We generated shot after shot on the opposing net, but being the first game of the season our accuracy was not quite there yet.  Regardless of our many missed shots, 2 goals from Alex Korda and 1 goal from Jonas Weissland was more than enough to earn us our first victory of the season.  Great game boys and let’s keep working to become an even more united team.
