Getting to know Selena Coupland

Bonjour! I am the new Primary French Teacher this year at Crestwood. I am originally from Timmins, a small town in northern Ontario where I grew up in French Immersion education all the way to university. I am proud to be part “franco-ontarienne”, with my mother being born in Quebec. I hold an Honours Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree from Laurentian University and Western University respectively in Music education and in Second-Language French Instruction. I have been teaching French as a second language now for the past six years to a wide range of students from grade 1 to grade 12.

I envision that the Primary French program this year will provide the grades 1, 2 & 3 students with the tools and confidence to use some French in basic conversation with some reading, writing and grammar. I also want children to be successful in learning the language at his or her own pace, while also feeling like they are an essential part of their respective French-class learning communities. Finally, I want them to have a joy and excitement for learning another language!
