Crestwood plays a packed week with wins against St. Mike’s and SAC

Hockey

The Varsity Hockey team played Country Day in a fast paced game of hockey against a big, hulking team of quick skating, physical boys. After some great saves from Spencer Whitnall and some miraculous efforts from forwards such as Peter Keane, Noah Aaron and Chris Sanders, the boys unfortunately fell behind in the first period by a large margin. Facing a big gap in scoring, we did not quit and were able to put up a great fight til the final buzzer. Cole Morrison zipped an absolute lazer past the goalie in the 2nd period, breaking the shutout of the opposing goalie. Unfortunately, Crestwood fell 9-1 to Country Day.

The U-14 Hockey took their undefeated record of 5-0 to Country Day School in what turned out to be a very close game that was determined in the final minutes.  Crestwood led for most of the game but found themselves in an unfavorable position, however, the team prevailed after Samuel Li was able to bang in a goal after a scrum in front of the net with 50 secs left to play in the game. Final score, Crestwood 6, Country Day 5.  Great play by all and special mentions go out to Roy Pejcinovski for another good game in net and to Cole Eichler, Samuel Li and Eric Chen for another multi-point game.  Keep up the good work, the coaching staff is very proud of you.

Basketball

After a hard fought battle against St. Mike’s our Crestwood Senior Lions lost 66-65.  A special shout out to Elijah Fisher, Julio De Gauw and Tahron Allen for playing their first senior game of the CISAA season.  Leading score was Tahron Allen with 24 points.

The senior boys basketball team defeated St. Andrew’s College by a score of 68-47.  Top scorer was Jahcobi Neath.

The Jr. Boys Basketball team put on a show against Hillfield Strathallen College.  With their tenacious defense, the Lions were able to jump out to sizeable in the first quarter.  The team continued their stellar play into the second half which proved too much for HSC to overcome.  The final score was 67 Crestwood – 45 HSC

Our Jr. Lions also traveled to St. Andrews College.  The Lions got off to a slow start but picked up in the second quarter.  The Lions were led by Tahron Allen who poured in a game-high 25 points, and Jonah Eichler who added 10 points with a pair of threes. Ultimately the lions brought home the victory winning 64-47.

The U-14 Boys Basketball team played a great game against St. Michael’s College School beating them 71-54 remaining undefeated for the season. Under the leadership of Elijah Fisher, Jaden Langley Thomas and Jesse Codron the team got off to a great start and never looked back.  Special mention must go out to Liam MacInnis for his point contribution, Shaan Kapur draining a last second shot, Ben Haar for his hustle and positive contribution, and Jaden Zelyuk for his work on both ends of the floor. Coach Lyons and Pagano are very proud of the boys.

Curling

Crestwood’s Boys and U-14 curling teams travelled to Richmond Hill Curling Club for games against the York School and TMS. Both games were nail biters, with scores seesawing back and forth, and the decision coming down to the final stones.

While both games ended in losses, it literally came down to a matter of inches. Good curling boys, and we’ll get them next time.

Swimming

The Varsity Swim Team had another fantastic meet at the Markham Pan Am Pool yesterday. Big congratulations to Marina Nevison, Justin Soberman, Sam Douey, Max Dolman, and Joseph Zuckerman for continuing to drop some serious time.
The Championships take place on February 22nd at UofT, and we can’t wait to see what our swimmers can do.

Volleyball

The U14 Girls’ Volleyball Team traveled to Pickering College for their final regular season game. The girls played two intense sets, filled with exciting hits, tremendous serving and long rallies. Special shout out goes to Jordan Nikolov for her consistent passes, and Lydia Wang for her well-placed serves.  The close match came down to the deciding third set. The girls played a dedicated game with a lot of heart, but ultimately lost the third set by a close one. Mrs. O’Connor and Ms. Chau would like to thank all their girls for an excellent season and for all their enthusiasm through every practice and game, They are very proud of the development they have shown throughout the year. Great job girls!
