Carpool Concerns

Dear Parents,

Please read the letter below that I received from a parent voicing his/her very valid concerns about carpool pickup at the end of the day. I’m sure that many of you can relate to his/her frustration. I’m also hoping that some of you can look in the mirror and admit that you are one of these people that he/she is referring to. After you read the letter, please see some recommendations from the school to make things run more safely and smoothly.

Hello Dalia,

I wanted to touch base regarding the current situation involving after school pick-up. The situation has become quite dangerous. The number of parents who feel it reasonable to drive into oncoming traffic starting well up the Lawrence hill is astounding. For the last several days I have watched numerous parents speed down the hill (doing easily 60km/h) in an attempt to get ahead into zone 2 pick up. By doing so, they have prevented parents who have already picked up their children from leaving and then have forced their way into the line in front of all the other parents who have been patiently waiting. In my opinion their incredibly selfish, dangerous, and frankly stupid behaviour will result in an accident before long.

I am hopeful that you may be able to send out an email to parents to remind them to be safe and courteous during pick up. I pick up my son from zone 2 and I certainly don’t proceed until I am certain that I can enter the zone 2 pick up lane without blocking parents who are leaving zone 1 and 2 or that I am skipping ahead of other parents who have been patiently waiting. I tend to wait until I reach the zone 1 exit, unless I’m instructed by a staff member, before even considering entering the oncoming traffic lane. I am honestly dumbfounded that I even need to send this email as we are talking about adult behaviour, but here we are. Any help that you could provide with this would be greatly appreciated! Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss the matter.

Thank you!

The Glendon College Hill closure has certainly presented increased traffic issues. In an attempt to alleviate the recent congestion and chaos at our end of the day pickup routine, please review the following best practices:

Do not enter the oncoming lane until you have been signaled (pointed at or spoken to) by the attending carpool custodian.

Always proceed at a slow, cautious speed to ensure the safety of all individuals involved.

Do your best to arrive at your allotted time for pick up.

Carpool runs up until 4pm so if you wish to avoid the busy time plan to arrive between 3:45 and 4pm.

In the end, the safe and secure transportation of all Crestwood families is all that matters…please be patient and wait your turn.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this most important issue.

Yours truly,

Dalia Eisen
