Lummiss, William

William Lummiss was born April 21, 1929 in Toronto, where he grew up in the Beaches neighbourhood of the city.  He attended Adam Beck Public School, and then Danforth Tech, and then pursued an apprenticeship in graphic design.  Impacted by the events of the war, the young William remembers scrap metal drives and rationing, and the news of Dieppe prompted him to join a bugle regiment, which was part of the Queen’s York Rangers.   They trained for war, in Toronto’s west end and Camp Borden, but the war ended before William could be called up.  He continued to pursue his career in graphic design, and a few years later he married and raised his family, finding his way in postwar Toronto.  William was interviewed by Scott Masters at his home in Barrie, in November 2021.
