Crestwood Gives – Holiday of Hope
There is only one week left of our Holiday of Hope initiative. So far the donations have been slow but we are hopeful that next week we will see a lot more gifts coming in. There are so many people in need of our help, this year more than ever. The Crestwood community has always been amazingly supportive of these initiatives and we strongly believe that it is important to teach our students about the importance of helping those in need and having empathy for the less fortunate. This holiday season we have decided to support many local charities within the GTA and there are several ways you can get involved. Please see different ways to donate;
Holiday of Hope Hampers
Once again this year CPC has partnered with Durham Children’s Aid Society and we will be supporting 6 families over the Christmas holidays. Each grade will be taking on a family and looking for donations of new toys and clothing to brighten the holidays for their children. Please see the posters attached to see what each family is wishing for. The following teachers are responsible for a grade and you can direct questions to them;
Grade 7 – Lisa Newton (lisa.newton@crestwood.on.ca)
Grade 8 – Steven vovk (steven.vovk@crestwood.on.ca)
Grade 9 – Maria Gill (maria.gill@crestwood.on.ca)
Grade 10 – Phil Santomero (phil.santomero@crestwood.on.ca)
Grade 11 – Elena Young (elena.young@crestwood.on.ca)
Grade 12 – Kim Williams (kim.williams@crestwood.on.ca)
Donations can be made in several ways;
- select an item on the wish list that you would like to buy, and drop it off in the front lobby of the school. Please attach receipts for all items.
- you can make a cash donation and the lead teacher will use that to purchase any gifts not brought in. Please bring your cash donation to the lead teacher.
- make a donation of a gift card
All donations for this initiative must be brought in by Wednesday December 2nd.
Clothing Drive – New of Gently Used
Over the next month we will be having a Clothing drive to help benefit 3 difference Toronto organizations;
- Toronto’s Native Child and Family Services. Native Child strives to provide a life of quality well-being and healing for families in the Toronto Native community. This holiday season Native Child is looking for donations of new or gently used clothing items. Help support a family in need by bringing in donations to the collection box located in the Front Foyer of the school!
- Boys and Girls Club of East Scarborough – The Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough has been serving their community since 1956. Each year the Club provides service to over 5,000 children and youth in over 19 locations throughout the East Scarborough community. At the Boys & Girls Club of East Scarborough, they strive to meet the changing needs of their community and continue to make their place ‘A good place to be’.
- New Circle – New Circles offers programs and services to meet the needs of low income families in the five communities we serve: Thorncliffe Park, Flemingdon Park, Victoria Village, Taylor-Massey, and Oakridge. Their GLOW program provides high quality, gently worn and new clothing to families in their catchment area for a period of time up to 4 years.
- Scarborough Centre for Health Communities – SCHC provides comprehensive community health programs and services to improve the holistic overall health and well being for vulnerable seniors and marginalized residents in Scarborough.
Mitten, Glove and Hat Drive
- During these cold months it is said to think that some children do not have warm mittens, gloves and hats. We will have a tree set up in the front lobby of the school for students to hang a donation of hats/gloves/mittens that we will then divide and donate to all of the charities mentioned above.
