New technologies have expanded opportunities for teaching history. Over the last decade, Crestwood Preparatory College created an Oral History Archive of hundreds of Holocaust survivors and Second World War veterans, where they have shared their insights into a difficult period of history with students. Students learned facts first-hand, experiencing emotions and memories from the war. Scott Masters and the students of Crestwood presented their project’s webpage, complete with its online video archive, and shared the lessons that they learned.
Scott Masters is a teacher at Crestwood Preparatory College, where he founded and presently directs the award-winning Oral History Project. Mr. Masters and his students have interviewed many Holocaust survivors at Baycrest’s Cafe Europa and in the larger Toronto community, building an oral history archive, which can be found at https://crestwood.on.ca/ohp
