On Tuesday April 12th, the Grade One classes participated in another wonderful workshop about “structures” through Scientists in the School. They worked in teams as “engineers” discovering the concepts needed to build strong structures. The children explored the role of fasteners with different materials using real tools. They examined a variety of natural and man-made materials and learned their properties. They were asked to build a framework from newspapers and masking tape and test it for strength and stability. Our “master engineers” were able to support 5 large books on the structures they devised. They really learned a lot!! Thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time, as well as, Maya Shapiro, a grade 6 student!
